Update 6/1/11: While I am a work in progress, I was told that should be expected from me since I am a puppymill survivor. If you do not know what a mill survivor is, you can take a look on google to learn more. It's really sad where I came from but my foster family is really great and they are very patient with me. I love my foster home, foster fur siblings and their family life. I remain guarded and cautious but I really like my foster Mom and love to spend time with her which the Rescue Squad feels is a great sign of socialization. I follow my foster Mom everywhere she goes! If she walks across the yard, my little paws go super fast & I run towards her as quick as I can. My foster Mom giggles and says I practically trip over myself. I get very excited to see her when she comes back after a few hours of being out during the day; so much so that I go into a sneezing frenzy of happiness! I get along fine with other dogs of all sizes but I sometimes have to remind them to share MY mommy with me. I just give them a polite ARRRGH under my breath but would never attack them. I really like my fur siblings so I follow their lead. I greet guests at the house like they do but I prefer to do the approach. I am cautious but once I get to know someone, I love to be held by them whether they are a man or woman. It just takes some time for me to feel safe with them. We are still working on perfecting my housebreaking. My foster Mommy says she is proud of me because it has gotten so much better but I'm not 100% perfect just yet. I do have a bit of separation anxiety so I would have accidents when my foster Mom would leave. I do like it best when she leaves me with all of the other dogs as I am less likely to have accidents then. I guess I feel safe this way. I have mastered the stairs- I go up with no problem then take one step at a time to go down. I like to eat treats and love to be rewarded for going outside. I do not play with toys just yet but that is mostly because I do not know what to do with them. My foster Mom says that she has really grown to care for me and her heart aches that I still haven't found a furever home because I am so great. She knows there is a family out there for me.....
Although I do not like loud noises, I am friendly, like other dogs, like all people despite being guarded and cautious and take treats nicely. I enjoy car rides, accept bathing without much struggle and sleep great without any accidents at night! My hair is growing in nicely and I am on the road to being housebroken. Woof! My name is Xena and I am adjusting well to home life. That puppymill I came from was a real rotten place but nevertheless, I still like being outside. I follow my foster siblings and humans around. I am inquisitive about all the new sounds and smells but I am guarded and cautious. My foster Mommy is working on basic commands, using positive reinforcements and teaching me to accept a lot of love, hugs and kisses. I didn't know what any of this was before I came to the Rescue Squad. I do like to be held, brushed, and I allow my face to be washed. I walked on a leash and really enjoyed the time with my foster Mommy. She says I walked really well! Woof! I eat well and I am working on trusting humans but I will take treats out of my foster Mommy's hand. I really dislike the crate tho. I spent so much time in one that on the few occasions my foster Mommy has put me in it to leave for an errand or two, I bark constantly. I just want to be out! My potty training is coming along but I still need work. My foster Mom says she is so proud of how well I have been doing. She says that with love and patience, I will be a great pet for someone! I guess you can say I'm a big mush, who just wants acceptance and a good life! My adoption fee is $300 which includes my spay and vaccinations. More about XenaGood with Dogs, Good with Kids
